# Proposed EPF Ceiling Hike May Benefit Future EPS Pensioners

The government is reportedly considering raising the EPF wage ceiling from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000. Legal experts say existing EPS pensioners would not receive an automatic increase because pensions are calculated using rules in force at retirement. When the ceiling rose in 2014, already sanctioned pensions remained unchanged. Under the EPS formula, the proposed ceiling could raise the maximum pension for 35 years of service from ₹7,500 to ₹12,500. Employees contributing for several years after the change and new entrants would benefit most. The impact on retirees would depend on any amendment, including whether it applies retrospectively.
