# EPFO issues 1.49 lakh higher-pension orders; govt lists 4 steps

EPFO has issued 1,49,806 pension payment orders for higher contributions following the Supreme Court's November 2022 direction, Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje told Lok Sabha. Of the 15,24,365 claims received, only 11,595 were pending as of 5 August. To speed up processing, the government has taken four steps: an online facility for Joint Options, processing claims under applicable provisions, instructions to regional offices for timely disposal, and regular video conferences to review progress. Members can track claims via the Umang app, portal, SMS (to 7738299899), missed call (9966044425), or toll-free numbers 1800 118 005 and 1800 114 470. The minister said the government is committed to robust social security under the new EPS 2026 scheme while ensuring the fund's sustainability. Meanwhile, BJP MP K Laxman urged the centre to enhance the minimum pension of Rs 1,000, citing rising costs of food and healthcare.
