The farmers, led by the Tamilaga Vivasayigal Pathukappu Sangam, had been protesting since August 5 against the pipeline route from Irugur to Devanagonthi in Karnataka. They claim the project, laid along the same path as a 1999 pipeline, damages their fields and reduces land value. New Indian Express reports that the protesters were forcibly admitted to Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning but continued their fast.
