Levi’s, Uniqlo, Primark and Zara are teaching young customers to mend clothes through in-store repairs and workshops, the Economic Times reports. Levi’s created a 90-minute handstitching course for high school students after finding many Gen Zers lack sewing skills. Primark hosts free ‘Love It For Longer’ events, and Zara launched a digital platform for resale and repairs. While repairing clothes can reduce environmental impact, researchers say the scale is too small to offset rising textile waste. The UN estimates fabric waste equivalent to a garbage truck is dumped or incinerated every second. Clothing production doubled from 2000 to 2015, and less than 1% of discarded material is recycled.
