# FC Jurong signs Japanese star Keisuke Honda for 2026-27 season 2026-08-22T22:11:30+00:00 | Sports | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Singapore Premier League club FC Jurong, part-owned by Indian company SkaSports, has signed former AC Milan and Japan international Keisuke Honda for the 2026-27 season. The announcement was made on Saturday by club chairman Daisuke Korenaga, who also named Takasago Singapore Pte. Ltd as the club's main partner. Korenaga said Honda, who has played in three World Cups for Japan, brings experience, winning mentality and professionalism. He emphasised the signing is not just about the player's reputation but about setting high standards for the next generation of FC Jurong players. FC Jurong, which is starting a new chapter under its new name this season, aims to win now while building for the future. Honda's arrival is seen as an important step in that journey. ## Indian Opinion Analysis This move marks a rare instance of a Singapore club attracting a global football name past his prime. Honda, 40, played for CSKA Moscow, AC Milan and Melbourne Victory, and has been player-coach in Cambodia. For SkaSports, part of Indian conglomerate SKA Group, this signals ambition to raise FC Jurong's profile in Southeast Asian football. The next step to watch is whether Honda's signing draws crowds and sponsors to the league, which typically operates on modest budgets. ## Coverage - thehindu.com Straight news report without framing or editorial comment on the signing.
