A 21-year-old Florida flight instructor safely landed a single-engine Piper PA-28 on busy Interstate 10 near Pensacola after an engine emergency on August 4, 2026. Emily Shelton was flying with a student when oil pressure fell critically and fumes entered the cockpit. She declared an emergency after deciding the aircraft could not return to the airport, then guided it between moving vehicles and beneath an overhead sign. No one was injured. Dashcam footage showed the aircraft coming to a controlled stop without hitting cars. Shelton, who has more than 1,300 flying hours, later credited her training. The Times of India reports that the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the engine failure. Shelton also joked about the traffic disruption in a viral TikTok post.
