Two men have been killed and a woman injured in separate wild elephant attacks in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts over two days. Mahadevaswamy (45), a forest watcher on night patrol after a sandalwood theft, was killed instantly inside Malai Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary. Annappa (45), a plantation worker, died in Virajpet taluk. Shantha (50) was injured in Ponnampet. The forest department has offered Rs 5 lakh interim compensation and a job to Mahadevaswamy’s family on compassionate grounds.
