# Former Mangalore University professor Waheeda Sultana dies at 70

Waheeda Sultana, a former professor and head of Mangalore University’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Mysuru on Thursday. She was 70. Her funeral will be held in Mysuru on Friday afternoon, according to family sources. Sultana taught at the university for nearly three decades. She also served as warden of the women’s hostel and coordinated IAS and KAS coaching programmes for minority and OBC students. She wrote on media, women’s issues, health communication and technology, and presented research in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. She served as National Committee Vice-Director of the Asian Congress for Media and Communication. She is survived by her husband, two brothers and three sisters.
