# Four IPL franchises chase Gautam Gambhir for 2028 coaching role 2026-10-30T08:31:41+00:00 | Sports | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 4 independent outlets At least four Indian Premier League franchises, including Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, have expressed interest in bringing India head coach Gautam Gambhir back as a mentor or coach for the 2028 season, according to reports published on 30 October. Two other unnamed franchises are also in the hunt, with one described as a past champion franchise and the other as yet to win a title. KKR won the 2024 IPL title under Gambhir’s mentorship after a 10-year drought. Gambhir’s current contract as India’s head coach runs until the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. ABP Live reports that preliminary discussions have already taken place between Gambhir’s camp and Rajasthan Royals, and that a possible extension until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics has also been discussed. No agreement has been announced. Gambhir’s availability for the 2028 IPL season will depend on his international contract. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The four outlets all report that four IPL franchises are interested in Gambhir, with KKR and Rajasthan Royals named by every source and confirmed by NDTV and M9.News. ABP Live adds that preliminary discussions have occurred with Rajasthan Royals and that a contract extension until the 2028 Olympics is possible, neither point appears in the other three reports. M9.News speculates more than the others: it questions whether Gambhir would choose any franchise over KKR and notes KKR and LSG's post-Gambhir decline, a framing absent from the wire-style NDTV, Khel Now and ABP Live reports. Every outlet agrees that Gambhir’s availability depends on his existing contract, which runs until the 2027 World Cup, the only concrete future date named across all sources. ## Coverage Coverage: 4 sources, 2 neutral, 2 sensationalist - ndtv.com (neutral report) Straight forward wire report, no editorialising - khelnow.com (sensationalist) Includes speculative franchise identity guessing - m9.news (sensationalist) Speculates on Gambhir's preference and team decline - abplive.com (neutral report) Adds unconfirmed extension and talks detail, otherwise neutral This brief was synthesised by AI from the 4 sources linked above, so one read covers every framing they carry.
