The two-month buying spree breaks four months of heavy selling, during which FPIs withdrew Rs 1.17 lakh crore in March, Rs 60,847 crore in April, Rs 32,963 crore in May, and Rs 49,340 crore in June. However, for calendar year 2026, FPIs remain net sellers, having withdrawn a net Rs 2.41 lakh crore, already exceeding the Rs 1.66 lakh crore outflow of the whole of 2025. Market experts cited by Economic Times and PTI attribute the recent purchases to expected US rate cuts, softer crude, a stable rupee, and the RBI’s improved outlook.
