Fresh footage from the sets of SS Rajamouli's Varanasi leaked online, showing Mahesh Babu in a blood-soaked avatar at a ghat. Separately, the film's official synopsis was revealed by a marketing website, as reported by the Times of India. The plot: Mahesh Babu plays Rudhra, an archaeologist tasked with finding an ancient cosmic artifact to stop asteroid Shambhavi from hitting Varanasi. Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini, a historian and marksman. Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Kumbha, the villain. Rajamouli told European magazine Tsounami that 80 per cent of the film is complete. Varanasi spans multiple continents and time periods, from Varanasi to Antarctica, Africa and Ancient Rome. It is the first non-English film shot entirely with IMAX cameras. The film is scheduled for worldwide release on April 7, 2027.
