# FSSAI urges public to check food expiry, reduce wastage

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has appealed to consumers to read food labels carefully to reduce waste and stay healthy. Under the campaign #HarLabelKuchKehtaHai, the regulator clarified that the 'Use By/Expiry Date' relates to safety, and food should not be consumed after this date. The 'Best Before' date relates to quality, where food may still be safe if stored properly. Separately, a survey by Times Now Digital found that over 52 per cent of respondents reported receiving either expired or near-expiry products from e-commerce platforms.
