# Gandhi temple in Srikakulam readies for 80th I-Day

A temple dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi in Srikakulam is being spruced up for the 80th Independence Day celebrations. The Gandhi Mandiram at Shanti Nagar Colony is believed to be India's first temple for the Father of the Nation, The Hindu reports. Built on land allotted by the municipal corporation in 2022, the complex also houses the Freedom Fighters Smruthi Vanam, a walkway with 65 busts of figures from Bhagat Singh to Swami Vivekananda. A 105-ft national flag has been hoisted. Organisers expect hundreds of students to attend the August 15 event.
