Since taking over as Test captain, Shubman Gill has scored 1,076 runs at an average of 82.76 in 15 innings, second only to Don Bradman's 101.51 among skippers with at least 10 innings. Gill, who will lead India in its 600th Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Independence Day, backed Devdutt Padikkal for the No. 3 spot and said the team is in constant touch with the BCCI Centre of Excellence on injured players like Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan.
