The driver noticed smoke from the engine compartment and stopped the bus, evacuating all passengers through the front gate. Within seconds, flames engulfed the entire vehicle, reducing it to ashes. Fire tenders from Udyog Vihar and Sector 18 doused the blaze in about 30 minutes. The crew had tried to use an onboard extinguisher but could not open the engine cover due to heat and smoke. Traffic on the Dundahera-bound lane was diverted for 50 minutes. GMCBL officials say a short circuit in the engine bay could be the cause, and a technical investigation is underway.
