Gold prices moved in conflicting directions on Friday, with two leading Indian business dailies giving contrasting accounts of the metal’s weekly trajectory. The Hindu Business Line reports that spot gold fell 0.5 per cent to $4,326.75 an ounce and is set for a weekly loss, as investors booked profits after mild US inflation data pushed bullion to its highest since June 5. Livemint, however, says spot gold climbed 1 per cent to $4,397, heading for a second straight weekly gain with a 9 per cent monthly rise in August, supported by a weaker dollar and easing Fed rate hike bets. Both note that traders now price only a 35 per cent chance of a September rate hike, down from 55 per cent last week, but they disagree on the immediate impact.
