# Father, stepmother get life for murder of daughter in UP

A Gonda court has sentenced Rajesh Shukla and his wife Kiran to life imprisonment and fined them Rs 25,000 each for murdering his daughter, Shweta, in June 2024. The prosecution said Rajesh wanted Shweta to marry a man accused in a dowry death case. When she refused, the couple allegedly slit her throat and made a false emergency call blaming Rajesh's brothers. District and Sessions Judge Durga Narayan Singh convicted the pair on Tuesday after examining evidence and witness statements. Police arrested them a day after the murder. Separately, a Faridabad court sentenced two men to life imprisonment on Tuesday for the gang rape and murder of a 25-year-old Dalit woman in April 2023.
