# Google offers college students in India free AI Plus for one year 2026-08-20T07:22:22+00:00 | Technology | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets Google has launched a one-year free Google AI Plus subscription for eligible college students in India. The plan includes Gemini tools, 400GB of storage across Gmail, Drive and Photos, and higher usage limits for AI features. After the free period ends, the subscription will cost Rs 399 per month, Google said. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced the offer alongside new AI study tools for competitive exams including NEET, JEE, GRE and SAT. Students using Google Search can now generate interactive visuals, take practice quizzes and use Lens to learn concepts. A dedicated student hub in Gemini offers diagnostic quizzes to identify weaknesses and suggest study plans. Google also launched a Deep Research feature for personalised learning. Students outside the US get the Plus tier, US students get Google AI Pro with 5TB storage. Indian students can bundle Google AI Pro with YouTube Premium at up to 70% discount. The tools are available immediately on the Google One website. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Both sources report the same Google offer identically: one year of free Google AI Plus for college students in India. Times Now leads with the technical features and claiming process, framing it as a straightforward consumer announcement. Livemint leads with Sundar Pichai's announcement and the exams (NEET, JEE, GRE), framing it as an education story aimed at Indian test-takers. Neither outlet adds critical context, such as the auto-renewal at Rs 399/month or data implications, nor does either carry government or political slant. The coverage is uniform straight reporting. A careful reader should note the Rs 399 monthly cost after one year, and that the student hub's diagnostic quizzes mean Google gains data on individual learning gaps. ## Coverage Coverage: 2 sources, 2 neutral - timesnownews.com (neutral report) Leads with claiming process and storage specs, no exam-prep framing - livemint.com (neutral report) Leads with Sundar Pichai announcement and NEET/JEE/GRE tools This story was synthesised by AI from the 2 sources linked above.
