# Google Doodle marks India’s 80th Independence Day with textile art

Google’s August 15, 2026 Doodle marks India’s 80th Independence Day with a colourful textile patchwork artwork. Hindustan Times reports that it is a modified reissue of the 2023 Doodle by New Delhi-based artist and graphic designer Namrata Kumar, with an updated, enlarged font. The design brings together Jamdani and Ikat weaves, Ajrakh block prints, Benarasi fabrics, Jammu and Kashmir’s Kani Pashmina, and Kerala’s Kasavu tradition. Google said the artwork represents India’s regional cultures and pays tribute to weavers, dyers and printers. Independence Day commemorates India’s freedom from British rule on August 15, 1947.
