Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday said the government is ready for a full discussion in the Lok Sabha on student protests and police action, with home minister Amit Shah responding to the debate. Rijiju asked the Opposition to participate peacefully and listen to the reply without disruption. The Opposition, led by Congress, had demanded a statement from Shah on police action during a July 20 protest by the Cockroach Janta Party in Delhi, where students alleged baton charge, tear gas and pellet gun use. After the government's offer, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge said Shah must clarify who authorised the firing, and demanded a prime minister's apology and a statement on the Ram temple donation theft. The monsoon session has faced repeated adjournments.
