# Greater Noida villagers seek renaming after decade of stalled development

Residents of Sadullapur in Greater Noida are pushing to rename their village as Bharatpur, claiming its name has led to neglect by authorities. Eleven years after being selected for the smart village programme, they still lack paved roads, proper drainage, and street lighting. The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) dug up the main access road four years ago for sewer work but never restored it, residents told TOI. A hospital just 3 km away can take an hour to reach due to damaged roads and traffic. Some villagers oppose the name change. Bhupendra Nagar told TOI: 'We do not want a new name. We want basic facilities.' Kamal Nagar, a realtor supporting the move, said around 98% of residents are Hindu, and their ancestors came from Bharatpur in Rajasthan. The petition has been submitted to the state government, and residents met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in July to press for the proposal.
