Investigators believe the fire began on July 31 when power cables sparked at a wind farm near Agios Vasileios, 85 kilometres northwest of the capital. Apostolou owns an electrical installation company linked to the site. A contractor and the wind farm’s owner also face charges of arson and damaging public utilities, Greek media reported. The fire spread towards Mount Kithairon in winds reaching 130 kilometres per hour. More than 120 buildings and homes were damaged in Porto Germeno. Greece has recorded dozens of fires since late July, leaving five people dead, including three firefighters.
