# Gujarat, Assam Step Up Medical Response After Floods

Gujarat has set up 6,868 medical camps and deployed more than 18,000 surveillance teams after heavy rain and flooding on August 1, The Hindu reports. More than 1.74 lakh people were examined or treated. Officials distributed 1.05 crore chlorine tablets and 10.29 lakh ORS packets, while 27,000 people were evacuated and 675 pregnant women moved to safety. In Assam, more than 200 doctors and paramedics have been sent to flood-hit districts, The Assam Tribune reports. No major disease outbreak has been reported there, though skin infections and fever have been recorded. Safe water, bleaching powder, ambulances and mental health teams are being provided. The state plans to continue medical care for at least two months.
