The accused, Dharam Singh, a native of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, strangled the victim with a wire, raped her, locked her on the terrace and fled after switching off his phone. Police tracked him through CCTV footage and arrested him within hours. During a recovery operation to retrieve a stolen phone, Singh allegedly tried to snatch an inspector's pistol. In the scuffle, a round was fired, injuring a police constable. Officers then fired another round, hitting Singh in the leg. Both are hospitalised in stable condition.
