A 22-year-old man was arrested by Delhi Police for his alleged involvement in a grenade attack on a police station in Punjab and arms trafficking in Delhi, an officer said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Karanbir, was arrested on Saturday in Gurdaspur, Punjab.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik said the accused was an active member of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) outfit and was involved in the April 7 grenade attack on Qila Lal Singh Police Station in Batala, Gurdaspur.

“During interrogation, the accused confessed that he was in touch with an agent of Punjab origin, who at present resides abroad and has been receiving money to manage tasks in India,” said the DCP.

The DCP said the accused told the police that he had received money for the grenade attack and had facilitated the stay of two of the accused in the terror act and sheltered them in his house.

The BKI had claimed responsibility for the grenade attack a day after in a social media post, stating the attack was carried out in retaliation for the December 2024 Pilibhit encounter, where three individuals allegedly linked to another case of grenade attack on the Bakshiwala police station in Gurdaspur were killed during a joint operation of the Uttar Pradesh and the Punjab police.

On July 23, Delhi Police arrested Akashdeep Singh alias Bazz, another accused in the Batala grenade attack case, from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
