# Start Kaleshwaram pumps immediately, Harish Rao tells Telangana govt

BRS leader T Harish Rao on Monday urged the Telangana government to immediately start pumping water from the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme to fill reservoirs for the ongoing kharif season. In a letter to Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Rao said farmers are stressed due to inadequate rainfall and delay in filling reservoirs. The former minister noted that Mid Manair reservoir holds about 22 TMCft against a capacity of 27.5 TMCft. He demanded filling of five reservoirs, Annapurna, Ranganayakasagar, Mallannasagar, Kondapochammasagar and Nrusimhasagar, and linked minor irrigation tanks. This would irrigate about four lakh acres. He also urged pumping water to Lower Manair Dam, which holds only 6.9 TMCft, to help SRSP Stage-II ayacut.
