Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said she plans to return to Bangladesh in December, despite possible arrest, imprisonment or threats to her life. The Hindu reports that she may return in December 2026, which she described as the month of victory. Her remarks came in a virtual press conference, her first such interaction with international media since her ouster in August 2024. Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, an adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, challenged her to return immediately. The Times of India reports that Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death last December over alleged crimes against humanity during the 2024 unrest. Dhaka has sought their handover from India.
