Singapore-based Hillhouse Investments has deployed over $2 billion in India across real estate, private equity and credit, with total assets under management approaching $4 billion. The firm plans to double its India investments over the next 2-3 years, Joe Gagnon, co-head of Real Assets, told ET. India is now Hillhouse's largest real estate market in Asia, accounting for about a third of its investments, with over $1 billion in equity deployed. Data centres are a major long-term focus for Hillhouse, with a separate co-investment pool that could run into several billion dollars. Siddhartha Gupta of partner Alta Capital noted India generates 20% of global data but has only 2-3% of data centre capacity, compared with 35-50 GW in China. The firm aims to be among three to five significant players in what it calls 'new economy' infrastructure sectors.
