The technology is designed to replace copper wiring and conventional pluggable transceivers. Founder and chief executive Dr Rohin Y said the near-packaged optics sit close to processors and are about the size of a SIM card. They combine four lasers and lenses with electronics and fibre, and can transfer 400 gigabytes of data per second. The company claims the system is 20 times smaller, uses three to five times less power and offers three times the bandwidth of conventional transceivers. It is conducting pilots with chip makers, equipment manufacturers and data centre operators. Commercialisation and global expansion are planned over five years.
