# IIT Kharagpur opens AI learning centre in Houston, Texas 2026-08-23T13:13:26+00:00 | World & Diplomacy | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet The IIT Kharagpur Outreach Network has launched the Texas AI Learning Centre in Houston, United States, to promote artificial intelligence education and skill development. The centre will focus on professional training and industry collaboration, offering programmes designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world AI applications. The initiative aims to provide students, professionals and researchers access to cutting-edge AI resources and expertise. It will also facilitate partnerships with local industries and academic institutions in Texas, strengthening the global footprint of IIT Kharagpur's alumni network. No details on funding, course fees or start dates have been announced yet. The centre is expected to begin operations in the coming months. ## Indian Opinion Analysis This is not IIT Kharagpur's first overseas outreach centre, but it is the first focused solely on AI. The Texas AI Learning Centre joins a handful of similar alumni-driven hubs in the US, UK and Singapore that serve as platforms for research exchange and corporate partnerships. For Houston, a city with a large Indian diaspora and a growing tech sector anchored by energy and healthcare, the centre could tap into demand for AI talent in industries like oil and gas analytics and medical imaging. The key question is how quickly the centre can convert its launch into funded projects and paid training programmes, since most such outposts rely on a mix of alumni donations and corporate sponsorships. Watch for announcements of industry partners or a first cohort enrolment date within six months. ## Coverage - ndtv.com Straight factual announcement of the centre's launch with no evaluative language or political slant.
