Ilaiyaraaja and Sanjay Subrahmanyan have released Palliyezhuchi Paavai Paadalgal, a collection of 30 Tamil devotional songs in praise of Lord Shiva. Ilaiyaraaja wrote the lyrics and orchestration, while Sanjay composed the music and sang. The album was released in late July on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify. The project is a rare collaboration between two pillars of Tamil music. Ilaiyaraaja brings film music's popular memory, and Sanjay brings Carnatic grammar and improvisation. The songs blend temple tradition, theatre, folk performance and orchestral elements.
