# Bangladesh PM Rahman likely to visit India this month

India and Bangladesh are negotiating an early bilateral visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to New Delhi, preferably before end of August or first week of September, to normalise relations. The Hindu reports that India has conveyed that an early visit would help renew the Ganga waters treaty, finalise energy agreements, and lift trade restrictions imposed on Bangladesh’s textile and food sectors in May 2025. Bangladesh has also pressed for the extradition of former PM Sheikh Hasina, who addressed a virtual press conference from Delhi on August 5. India distanced itself from her remarks. The visit is not finalised, with timing depending on Rahman’s schedule and bilateral talks progress, said Bangladesh state minister Shama Obaed Islam.
