Ashok Kumar Gautam, the first managing director and chief executive of the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) in GIFT City, has resigned citing personal reasons. He is serving a three-month notice period ending in November, people familiar with the matter said. Gautam led the exchange since its launch in July 2022. IIBX was set up to provide a transparent channel for bullion imports, but it has struggled to gain traction. Cumulative gold trading took nearly three years to cross 100 tonnes, a fraction of India's annual imports of roughly 700 tonnes through other channels. The exchange is promoted by NSE, BSE, NSDL, CDSL and MCX, and regulated by the International Financial Services Centres Authority.
