# CJI: India can become global mediation centre

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said on Friday there is no reason India cannot become a global centre for mediation. At the International ADR Conference, 2026, he described mediation as a deeply psychological process and noted that 90 per cent of mediated settlements are voluntarily complied with. He credited the Mediation Act, 2023 with providing a standalone statutory architecture and highlighted the growth of institutional mediation centres with digital systems and trained professionals. The CJI also pointed to hybrid processes like med-arb-med and said India can match global standards in cross-border dispute resolution.
