# India distances itself from Sheikh Hasina media event

India has said it has no role in former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s virtual media interaction scheduled at New Delhi’s Foreign Correspondents’ Club. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the event was organised by a private media entity and that the government did not endorse any views expressed there. Bangladesh has warned that Hasina’s political activities from Indian soil could harm bilateral ties. Its Information and Broadcasting Ministry has urged media organisations not to broadcast her remarks, citing an International Crimes Tribunal order and legal obligations. Hasina has lived in India since fleeing Bangladesh on August 5, 2024, after protests toppled her government. She was sentenced to death in absentia last year.
