India on Friday formally standardised the names of 27 locations along the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh, including the border village Longju and strategic passes like Thag La. The Union home ministry said it acted in consultation with the state government to reinforce India's sovereign jurisdiction. The move counters China's repeated lists of standardised names for places in Arunachal Pradesh, which Beijing calls Zangnan. New Delhi has consistently rejected such renaming efforts as vain and preposterous. Among the notified features are four passes, a lake, a war memorial, and 21 land areas. Longju has been under Chinese control since 1959 but falls within India's claim.
