India defeated Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first Test in Galle on Wednesday, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar claimed six wickets in the second innings to finish with match figures of 10 for 106, his first ten-wicket haul in Tests. Chasing 372 for victory, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 206 in the post-lunch session on the final day. Sonal Dinusha fought back with 84 and captain Dhananjaya de Silva made 59, but Suthar struck three times in one over to end the resistance. Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket and Prasidh Krishna claimed two. India had earlier posted 462 in their first innings, led by Devdutt Padikkal's maiden Test century of 167. The second Test begins in Colombo on August 23.

## Indian Opinion Analysis

Coverage of this Test match is almost uniformly match-report neutral with no ideological split across Indian outlets. Every source, from Times of India to NDTV to ABP Live, leads with the same facts: Manav Suthar's ten-wicket haul, India's 165-run win, and the final scoreboard. The only variation is in framing emphasis. Pro-government-leaning pieces (sources 12, 15) highlight Suthar as the 'all-weather finger spinner India were craving', presenting the win as a vindication of selection policy. Neutral reports (sources 4, 14) stick to match chronology without verdict. The absence of any critical framing on this purely sporting story means readers can trust the common facts: Suthar took 6 for 55 in the second innings, Dhananjaya de Silva made 59, Sonal Dinusha 84, and India now lead the series 1-0. Watch for whether Suthar retains his place for the second Test starting in Colombo on August 23.
