# Navy officer to get Shaurya Chakra for Aden rescue

Indian Navy Lieutenant Commander Shivam Kumar has been recommended for the Shaurya Chakra for leading a rescue operation on an LPG tanker in the Gulf of Aden on 18 October 2025. The MT Falcon, a Cameroon-flagged vessel, was hit by an explosion and fire in a Houthi attack zone. Despite risks of a second blast, toxic gas, and thick smoke, Kumar repeatedly entered the burning compartments to recover the bodies of two missing Indian crew members. The operation was conducted under constant threat of Houthi missile attacks. The Navy said his bravery enhanced India's global reputation. Kumar was serving as the NBCD officer on INS Trikand at the time.
