India will become the biggest destination for Japanese capital in the next 10 years, predicts Sundeep Sikka, chairman of the Association of Mutual Funds in India and managing director of Nippon Life India Asset Management. Japanese investments, traditionally focused on manufacturing and infrastructure, are now expanding into financial services, technology and startups. Japan invested about $8 billion in India last year, and Sikka expects this to grow as Japanese firms seek long-term opportunities outside their ageing economy. Sikka also noted that India's systematic investment plan (SIP) boom has created a domestic buffer against foreign capital outflows, making the equity market more resilient. He urged investors to adopt a long-term mindset, citing Japan's culture of patient household savings as a model.
