Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is a strong contender to host the 2036 Olympics and will launch a nationwide talent hunt for children aged 5 to 15. Speaking from the Red Fort on Independence Day, Modi said the programme would identify prospects across the country and provide special training. India will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, which is also in the race to host the 2036 Olympics. Modi praised the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, launched in 2014, along with Khelo India and other sports programmes. He said India should aim to participate in at least three-fourths of Olympic events in 2036. He noted that the country currently cannot compete in at least two-thirds of events because it does not qualify.
