Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday amid diplomatic friction over exiled former premier Sheikh Hasina's virtual press conference from Delhi on August 5. Trivedi had held a one-on-one with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman the previous day. Dhaka protested Hasina's remarks, calling them hurtful to bilateral ties. India reiterated it had no role in the event, organised by a private media entity. The meeting comes as India invited Rahman to the BRICS Summit in September. Among issues needing attention is the renewal of the Ganga Waters Treaty, which expires in December 2026, The Hindu reports.
