At least five people have died as record flooding sweeps Indiana, with more than 90 people rescued from rising waters along the White River in Indianapolis on Saturday. The National Weather Service reported the White River cresting above 24 feet in Anderson and Noblesville, shattering records that had stood since 1913. Times Now reports that authorities warned additional rain could worsen conditions, with Warren County recording 2 inches in a six-hour stretch. More than 160,000 homes and businesses remain without power across the state, according to Livemint. The White River has reached record heights in some places, overflowing its banks and forcing the mayor of Muncie to declare an emergency. Governor Mike Braun declared a statewide emergency this week and has requested federal disaster assistance. Times Now reports that Braun said President Trump plans to approve that request. The National Weather Service warned of a moderate risk of excessive rainfall across parts of Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia on Saturday, with up to 4 inches (10 cm) possible in central and southern Indiana through the weekend.
