India's operational metro network has reached 1,170 km across 26 cities, Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on September 5 after inaugurating an extended service in Indore. The US has 1,386 km, making India the world's third-largest metro network behind China at around 8,000 km. Khattar said he expects India to overtake the US in two years.
