Wealth creation in India is spreading beyond Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru to cities such as Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and smaller centres such as Lucknow and Nagpur, says Ashish Shanker of Motilal Oswal Private Wealth. His firm's assets under management have surged from Rs 20,000 crore to Rs 2.39 trillion in five years. Barclays Private Bank India's Adrish Ghosh notes that first-generation family businesses now account for Rs 77.8 lakh crore in value, while India's top 300 family businesses are valued at Rs 138 lakh crore. Both experts say wealthy investors are increasingly allocating to global assets, private equity, and alternative investments, and are becoming more selective about unlisted opportunities after valuation corrections since 2021.
