India’s economic scorecard weakened in June as consumer demand lost momentum and inflation rose above the Reserve Bank of India’s 4% target. Eight of 16 high-frequency indicators fell below their one-year average range, compared with six in May. Car sales growth slowed to 15.3%, tractor sales to 11.9%, and domestic air traffic contracted 1%. Production remained firmer. Industrial output grew 7.3% year on year, its fastest pace since July 2024, while core-sector growth rose to 5%. Labour-intensive exports grew 12.1% after contracting in May. CPI inflation increased to 4.4%, with food inflation at 5.3%. Improved kharif sowing has reduced crop risks, but rainfall and yields remain key factors.
