Investigation Underway in Elderly Couple’s Death in Kannur’s Alavil

 The police have intensified their probe into the death of an elderly couple at their home at Alavil near Kannur on Thursday (August 28, 2025) evening. The deceased were identified as A.K. Sreelekha, 69, niece of Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran, and her husband Premarajan, 75.

According to preliminary findings, Premarajan hit his wife with a hammer before setting himself on fire. The hammer suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered from the bedroom. The bodies were found in a charred state. The police said there was no evidence of intrusion by a third party.

The Valapattanam police have registered a case of unnatural death. The investigation is being done under the supervision of District Police Chief (Kannur City) P. Nidhinraj.
