Delhi Capitals and Bengal cricketer Abhishek Porel was arrested by Hooghly police on Monday night after a medical student accused him of rape and criminal intimidation on the promise of marriage. The arrest followed a Calcutta High Court order on July 14 directing police to take him into custody. Police have charged Porel under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and IT Act. The woman, who met Porel in 2023, alleges he recorded intimate moments and threatened to make them public. She also claims he assaulted and confined her during an incident in Delhi on April 2, 2026. Porel, 23, has denied the allegations. He has played 35 IPL matches and represented Bengal in first-class, List A and T20 formats.
