# Iran president defends US-Europe talks, stresses sovereignty

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has defended Tehran’s decision to negotiate with the United States and Europe, saying Iran is ready for dialogue but will not accept demands that undermine its sovereignty or defensive capabilities, state news agency IRNA reported. He rejected claims that his government pressured Iran’s leadership into talks, insisting major decisions are taken through national security structures. Pezeshkian said diplomacy and military strength are not contradictory. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi separately called for greater unity among Iran’s neighbours, urging countries to “rely on ourselves”. The remarks follow an MoU signed in June between Iran and the US, which envisioned talks within 60 days towards a final agreement, though renewed tensions have cast uncertainty.
