Times Now reports that Jailer 2 beats Vijay’s Jana Nayagan to become Tamil cinema’s biggest opener of 2026 and Rajinikanth’s third-biggest opener, trailing behind Coolie at Rs 65 crore and 2.0 at Rs 60.25 crore in India net collections. Update, 16 October 2026: Times Now reports that Jailer 2 has beaten Vijay’s Jana Nayagan to become Tamil cinema’s biggest opener of 2026 and Rajinikanth’s third-biggest opener. The film trails behind Coolie’s Rs 65 crore and 2.0’s Rs 60.25 crore in India net collections. Telugu360 reports Hrithik Roshan was paid Rs 25 crore for his cameo, a figure no other source mentions. ## Indian Opinion Analysis

Times Now leads with the news that Jailer 2 beat Vijay’s Jana Nayagan to become Tamil cinema’s biggest opener of 2026, a framing that emphasises competitive box-office records. The Indian Express, by contrast, leads with the fact that the film could not surpass Coolie’s opening, a framing that foregrounds a comparative shortfall. Business Today and Filmibeat report the same Rs 125.25 crore figure in neutral, data-only terms. Telugu360 reports salary figures for Hrithik Roshan and others that no other outlet mentions, a detail that stands alone. The different lead facts, victory over a rival vs a miss against another, create opposite impressions of the same Rs 125.25 crore opening. Both are accurate, but neither tells the full picture: the film set one record while falling short of another. The coverage is broadly uniform on the core numbers, with variation only in which comparison each outlet chooses to highlight.
