# Jammu and Kashmir drug treatments hit 46,491 in 2025-26, highest in 5 years

Data tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday shows 46,491 people were treated for drug addiction at government-supported centres in Jammu and Kashmir in 2025-26, the highest annual figure in five years. The number has risen sharply from 5,382 in 2021-22, with 27,843 treated in 2022-23, 40,546 in 2023-24 and 36,588 in 2024-25. Jammu district recorded the most treatments at 9,960, followed by Srinagar (6,204), Bandipore (5,769), Kulgam (5,765) and Rajouri (5,561). The ministry's 2018 National Survey estimated 5.4 lakh opioid users in J&K, a prevalence of 4.91% among those aged 10-75. The government runs 33 facilities under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction.
